Hajar Educational Complex is an educational complex for female students from five to eighteen years old. The complex includes a kindergarten, elementary school, and a high school. The main concept of this complex is teaching students how to respect nature and its natural cycle by maintaining it for future generations. Observing nature and seasonal change through vegetation will be centralized through courtyards within the complex. This project was nominated and chosen as the winner of best design for all final semester student projects.
The design process started from negative spaces of the courtyards representing the main concept, a complex with diverse internal courtyards. Designing spaces around each courtyard was the next step. Each two courtyards appertain to one level of education. Followed up by an administrative building and gym as shared spaces. In the final step, a free shaped atrium and connector was designed where all the levels can gather and collaborate.
